The Problem
Currently, the Music Marketing industry is unfortunately filled with far too many bots and scams. Here are some of the issues we’ve seen countless friends and clients run into.
-
It’s a sad reality that most music marketing companies sell bot streams disguised as “organic streams”. In today’s digital age, it’s way too easy to be fooled into buying something that looks real but isn’t.
-
Artists need to be able to show their music to as wide as an audience as they need. Many marketing services only offer exposure at a low scale. For instance, a company may have just 2 total playlists. Since we partner with dozens of curators per week, we make it so our clients have virtually no limit to the listeners they can reach.
-
Marketing methods change over time, and it’s hard to keep up with the best strategies. That’s why SoundRunners works tirelessly on market research, studying trends and listener habits, keeping us and our clients ahead of the curve.
Our Solution
We have years of Music Industry knowledge and experience on our team, and an obsessive passion for artist growth and music trends/fanbases.
-
Since we’re truly organic, the results from even our smallest campaigns create a permanent increase in stats like Monthly Listeners, yearly streams and overall fanbase. During the campaign, we learn about the audience our client performs best in by analyzing the user playlists that new fans added our client to. This tells us the other artists that the new fans like to listen to along with our client.
-
We discover 100+ playlists per week and start watching their daily growth before deciding whether to invest in them or not. This has led us to owning a private site we built to track all these playlists efficiently. We have ownership in 800 total playlists & monitor the growth of 5,000+ total playlists. Our network contains over 75+ sub- genres/moods.
-
In today’s global music scene, new sub-genres are constantly emerging, with enthusiastic fanbases behind them. We make a dedicated daily effort in studying newly surfacing trends, artists, and genre niches. This allows us to be the first curators behind many trends, sounds, and even moods We have what many industry professionals refer to as the most influential organic playlist network in the Music Industry.
Timeline
2016
Began uploading popular, exclusive music to SoundCloud and began to gain followers and influence on the platform.
Once our main page reached 50,000 followers, we started taking on clients and marketing their music on our SoundCloud.
2018
Started shifting to Spotify, studying the platform nonstop and teaming up with outside curators and influencers in an effort to market our clients and grow our network.
2019
Partnered with data scientists to create our playlist database, a software/private website we use that measures playlist growth and detects bot activity.
We began ramping up our practice of buying percentages of trending playlists.
2020-Present
Relaunched in 2020 increasing our curator relationships by over 50x.
We now service most major labels and have a strong team assisting in daily campaign structure, market research and more.
Services
Spotify Playlists
For the past 3-4 years we’ve studied the growth of thousands of Spotify playlists, analyzing trends and watching what everyday listeners search most on Spotify.
The playlists we work with grow from being the first result for a popular search term like “workout”, “sped up”, or “sad”.
After we study the growth of a playlist and confirm it is fully organic, we invest in it and partner with the curator, mixing our clients’ songs into each playlist and its theme/genre.
We currently track the daily growth of over 6,000 playlists, and we own a percentage of 800+ of them.

OWNED/COLLABORATIVE PLAYLISTS
We find many playlists at under 5,000 followers. We can tell by analyzing their follower growth that they will soon quadruple in size. After creating contact with the curator, we lock in a multi-year collaboration contract, giving us partial ownership in the playlist, to use for our clients.
Additional Benefits
Strategic Planning
We work together with each of our clients on deciding the best playlist niche and audience to target on our campaigns. The goal is fanbase growth.
For example: An artist may want to start planning for a European tour. We can target the top 10 European TikTok playlists, European Gym playlists, and more location-specific playlists. This has then played a major role in International fanbase growth, thus selling more tickets on our client’s tour.
Campaign Reports
We like to keep in contact with our clients before, during, and after our campaign.
When a client locks in a package, we create a client profile and set weekly check-ins in our calendar. The client profile contains information about the niche/style of our client, the history of their career/releases, and gets updated with the performance of campaigns (saves, user playlist adds, followers).
We then look over analytics on the client profile and Spotify For Artists during our weekly check-in, explaining and building on results…
Another key piece of analytics we prioritize is the Listener Playlists. These are not our playlists, this is when a listener finds our client’s song on one of our playlists, and then adds it to their own personal playlist.
Once they play our client’s song in their personal playlist, we’re able to look through that whole playlist. This teaches us that listener’s other favorite artists and songs. Looking through multiple Personal Listener Playlists, we learn more about the audience we should be targeting for our client.
Case Studies
Bandmanrill
AFTER
BEFORE
[01] TARGETED PLAYLISTING
We connected with Bandman right before his first hit song. We began putting his music in our fastest growing playlists, showcasing his new unique sound to the exact type of fans that would like it.
[02] DAILY/WEEKLY TRACKING
We kept track of Bandman’s analytics daily, compiling weekly summaries of how many new listeners he received. This helped set future goals and observe growth.
[03] LONG-TERM CAMPAIGNS
As Bandman started growing as an artist and signed to Warner, we didn’t stop the marketing, we continued to add to it, building an even bigger fanbase.
[04] EXTERNAL GROWTH
We were not the only factor in Bandman’s success, he created a viral TikTok video of his song that helped propel his career to the next level along with the marketing. His social media growth complimented our streaming growth.
Amaru Cloud
AFTER
BEFORE
The day Bonita by Amaru Cloud dropped in 2020, we began to place it in new, trending playlists fitting his sound.
The first round of playlists we added was 12 total playlists, a week later we added another 10 playlists.
Within a year, the song surpassed: 1.5M streams on Spotify and 4M Streams on SoundCloud.
The buzz attached to this song allowed Amaru to leverage major label offers with companies like Warner and Sony.

Many companies offer what they claim to be an algorithmic stream boost, having thousands of Spotify Radio streams come through on an artist's profile, showing up as an algorithmic source of streams. This easily fools artists and managers because most people would think, If it’s coming from/labeled as ‘algorithmic’ how could it be botted?
But, companies are able to bot algorithmic streams by opening the “Song Radio” for an artist's song and ordering bots to the link of the artist's Song Radio playlist, where the artist is the #1 song spot. This conceals bot streams to show up as algorithmic streams, but if you were to look at the conversion (playlist adds, saves) you will see it is irregular and inorganic, and risking a song-takedown.
In reality, real algorithmic streams come as a result of overall fanbase growth such as - real listeners saving the song from organic playlists, listeners clicking the song link from social media and playing it, sending the links to each other, and more. But even with these efforts, algorithmic stream growth is NOT something that can be turned on like a switch. (Unless using Spotify’s own Discovery Mode on Artists' app, which is not always effective).

Take a look at how much of the playlist has popular artists’ songs on it. If the playlist has no artists known artists on it, then what reason do listeners have to listen to it?
Most of the time, if a playlist selling placements has more than 20% unknown artists on it, that is a red flag.
When looking at a playlist, think about the average listeners' experience and expectations. The playlist wouldn't have gotten popular if it was filled with artists that listeners aren't familiar with, as that gives them not much reason to listen. Unless the playlist was specifically themed/named "unknown artists" or something of that sort.
-
90% of organic playlists grow because they are one of the top results for a word or lyric that listeners search daily. If a playlist is just named "Top Fire" and has 60k likes, this is another red flag as there isn't a source of growth. The 10% of organic playlists that gain a following from a source other than search result, are playlists that have a TikTok/Reel created about that playlist, causing listeners to go from TikTok to Spotify, saving the playlist.
-
Although free trials can exist in many industries, it's very rare for organic playlist companies to offer free trials, as even 1-2 days placement on a playlist has a cost. A lot of companies offer a free trial in an effort to build artists' trust. In reality, they may buy 50 cents worth of bots sent to the artist, resulting in 2k+ fake streams that can severely hurt the artists' algorithm and risk the song being taken down.
-
If you are an artist who unfortunately has gotten botted knowingly or not, you'll notice that there are virtually no playlist adds showing on Spotify for Artists in relation to the streams. 1,000 organic streams usually result in 40+ user playlist adds showing in analytics. On bot streams, you will see 1,000 streams and 0-1 playlist adds.
-
If you get added to a playlist or work with a company and receive a spike in streams, you should immediately check the amount of your top listener city's listeners. From there, see what percentage of your total monthly listeners that top city is. If it's anything above 5%, that's an immediate red flag. We have a graphic explaining this in our "Blog" section, but essentially, in organic monthly listener analytics, the top city listener amount is usually only 1-3% of total monthly listeners. Real listeners are spread throughout the world. Unless you are from that city and have a big fanbase there, organic top city monthly listeners should rarely ever exceed 5%.

FAQs
-
After running over 1,300 campaigns over the years, we can truly say we’ve never had a clients’ music get removed or striked from our playlists. Since the streams are actually organic, there’s never an issue with payouts or takedowns. But to put new clients' minds at ease, and because we are so sure of this not being a risk or possibility, we offer a full refund on the chance of a song being striked from a campaign of ours.
-
Yes, as a business we prioritize educating artists and teams about staying organic higher than we prioritize streams themselves. As stated earlier, our whole philosophy is studying what everyday listeners across the world search most often on Spotify, finding the top result, studying its hourly/daily follower growth, and acquiring that top result playlist. This is one of the reasons we are so trusted as a company, and work with most of the major labels.
-
While we choose which playlists our clients would fit best on, we fully allow clients to make recommendations and requests of what subgenre/niche of we would used.
-
As of August 2024, we track the daily growth of around 6,000 playlists, and have access/partial ownership to around 1,500 of them.

Yes, while there’s a multitude of benefits from our campaigns we can say without a doubt that even from the smallest package, this permanently increases Monthly Listeners, and the listeners that liked the song/added it to playlists will continue to stream the song for years after the end of campaign. Here are some of the other benefits that come from our campaigns as well: social media growth, fanbase development, partial or full return on investment.
-
Yes, we always send links and screenshots of each playlist placement to clients as soon as they are added. From there, we immediately set calendar dates on our end ot check-in and send campaign growth reports to the client every week or two.

Currently, we focus solely on Spotify but we are in the process of redeveloping social media marketing packages to grow artists’ fanbase and songs. This will involve our clients music strategically getting posted micro-influencers, music news pages, music edits/lyric themed pages, and sports themed pages. We have over a decade of experience with social media music marketing and plan to create arguably the most influential, effective and best valued social media packages in the music industry.
